A Statement from the Heirs of ESPIGA Pinto (1940-2014)

Since our father’s passing in 2014, our work as his children and heirs has been guided by a clear responsibility: to preserve, study and share the legacy of an artist whose practice moved with rare freedom across painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, performance, stage design, graphic design, medal and coin design, and public art.

The official ESPIGA Pinto Estate shop was created to bring ESPIGA’s work into closer view: to those encountering him for the first time, and to long-standing collectors across the world who have followed his work for many years. For new and long-standing collectors alike, it offers a way to begin or deepen a journey through rare prints, silkscreens, engravings and woodcuts, many of them long out of print, including works and artist’s proofs dating back to the early 1960s.

For us, this is not only a shop. It is part of a wider journey of research, preservation and recontextualisation. In recent years, that journey has included a donation of more than 50 works to CAM - Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian in 2020, ongoing archival work, and the 2025 exhibition Memórias do Alentejo / Memories of the Alentejo in Estremoz, which marked the first public presentation of the Alentejo Series in fifteen years.

ESPIGA Pinto was a distinctive figure in post-war European art whose symbolic language brings together rural memory, geometry and cosmic imagination. His public works remain present across Portugal, while findings from his studio continue to reveal the depth of a restless, multidisciplinary imagination.

Through the works, texts and guides presented here, we invite you to explore the three principal phases of his practice and to accompany us as we continue carrying his legacy forward.
