Since 1955 and across six decades, ESPIGA Pinto moved between painting, drawing, engraving, sculpture and design, building a body of work rooted in rural Portugal and shaped by symbolic enquiry.
The Alentejo gave the work its first language: figures, villages, animals, labour and landscape. These early images became a lasting source, not a closed chapter.
From the late 1960s, ESPIGA Pinto opened this language towards cosmic and philosophical space, bringing geometry, imagination and wider systems of meaning into view.
In the Luso-Geometric phase, memory, history and symbol became more formally ordered through Camões, Os Lusíadas, Inês de Castro, the horse and the Alentejo.
The three periods trace a continuous unfolding: from origin to cosmos, from lived memory to geometric reflection, and from local experience to universal form.
